Lacey Update May 31

Lacey was successfully moved by ambulance to the Rehabilitation Center today. They are giving her a bit of a break today, but Shelly said tomorrow they are going to keep her very busy. She has 3 different therapists. Regular one, occupational and speech.

Lacey's roommate at the center has problems with her right arm too, so they can work on their arm exercises together. Shelly and Mike have to leave by 8:30pm every night, no if, ands or buts!! So Shelly feels more comfortable that she has a roommate to keep an eye on her. Her name is Fran.

Shelly said Lacey is doing pretty good today. She is starting to ask about her friends, she remembers Brianna and asked about Tyler Richardson. She asked me about my dog yesterday, not how's Harold or Christopher... Just, "how's Max doing?" So she is coming back to us little by little. I miss her after I leave there, so much. I wlll go back next week. You know, it's Shelly's 50th birthday on Tuesday. Oh no, now I am in trouble!! Oh well, what else is new!

Ken and Peggy are coming tomorrow. Shelly said she and Mike are looking forward to their visit.

Please pray for Mike and Shelly to have a peaceful nights rest tonight. I know its hard leaving her, but it sounds like the level of care at the Center is very good. Lacey, my prayer tonight will be for you to stay strong and brave and keep remembering all the people you have in your life that love you very much. Liz K.

Lacey, Mike & Shelly,

You have all been constantly in our thoughts and prayers during this time. We're so glad to hear Lacey's progess is good and continues to improve. I so hope her therapy isn't terribly draining.
I have heard that RIO is the best rehab facility between Seattle and LA. We have very recently had two people from the college I work at receive treatment there. One person is a gal I work directly with that lost an arm in a car accident. She had cooking and gardening classes while there. It really will do wonders for Lacey and I hope at some time she even has some fun.
Liz, I don't know if I have ever had the honor of meeting you. I am Shelly's cousin and also Paula's sister. Anyway, I cannot thank you enough for all of the updates and good news you have had for all of us. I swear I check this site probably 3-5 times daily. I don't know what we'd do without your very detailed reports. I echo the thanks to you that so many have written on this site. :)
Our love and hugs to the Dunn's!!

Hope In Hardship
Anything Can Be Overcome
The journey that each human being makes through earthly existence can have hardship as often as it is touched by joy. When we encounter adversity, the stress we feel can erode our optimism, eventually convincing us that the issues we face cannot be overcome. In truth, there is no situation so dire, no challenge so great, and no choice so bewildering that it cannot be overcome. Though we may believe that all avenues have been closed to us or that our most conscientious efforts will come to naught, we are never without feasible options. The best course of action may be veiled in doubt, but it is there. When we are honest with ourselves with regard to this simple fact, we can overcome anything because we will never stop looking for a solution to the challenges before us.

Self-trust coupled with a sturdy plan is the ultimate antidote to adversity’s tendency to inspire disillusionment in the human mind. As difficult as the obstacle plaguing you seems, it is no match for the love of a supportive universe that has been a part of your life since the day of your birth and will be with you forevermore. Try not to be misguided by your fear as this gives rise to the notion that there are problems without solutions. If you believe in your capabilities and dedicate yourself to the creation of some form of resolution, you will be surprised to discover that paths that were once closed to you miraculously open. Even if all you can do is change your perspective to turn an impediment into an opportunity to grow, you will have found the hope that is an inherent element of all hardship.

Remember that your destiny is a product of your own creation. Even when it seems you have nowhere left to turn, there is a solution waiting for you. The only insurmountable obstacles are the ones you create in your own mind—and these can only exert power over you if you let them. Uncertainty will always be a part of your existence, but perseverance and mindfulness will never fail to see you through to the other side of hardship where joy can thrive. Try and remember that no matter what life places at your feet, there is absolutely no situation that cannot be resolved with time, love, and friendship.

We are so happy to here that Lacey is improving so much each day. Her huge fan base is pulling for her to get better and come home soon. Are flowers, balloons, allowed? We would love to be able to send something. Our thoughts and prayers continue to remain with Lacey and her family.
Love, The Krantz’s

Shelly...I have followed any and all updates on Lacey since the accident and when in Ketchikan last week for Jessica's graduation, I saw the blog address and knew I'd write you. You may remember that I live in Eugene now having left Ketchikan 6 years ago. While in KTN, I didn't go out to AST...I don't think many are there that I knew and we were there only 3 days. I wanted you to know that you and your family and your Lacey are in my thoughts, my prayers continually. My thanks to those who update this blog so we all know Lacey's condition and how you are doing, too. Take care of YOU, Shelly...and Happy Birthday Tuesday! Betty Davis

Mike and Shelly,

We think of you everyday and have prayed harder for Lacey than anyone I can remember since I prayed for my Grandma to quit smoking as a small child. She quit for my 12th bday!!!! I hope you are feeling less under pressure and if you wish to call and chat (about anything) I'd love to hear your voice.

Lots of love,
Will and Dana Kennedy

P.S. Can you believe Liz is your blog admin? Who would of thought!

The Dunn Family:

I am so glad Lacey is doing so well - we are lifting her (and you all) up in prayer. It is so hard to see your child in pain; when Daniel has to get an IV I wish they could poke me instead. You have a great network of support both South and here in Ketchikan - don't be afraid to ask anyone for anything - it is a great community!

Thank you, Liz, for these updates, also. It is so encouraging to see how well Lacey is doing on a daily basis.

Hugs to you all - The Eichners
